Obituary

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Barbara Ann Sessions Ragsdale, 92, of Camp Hill, Alabama. Mrs. Barbara passed away on Tuesday March 31, 2026, at Dadeville Health Care surrounded by her loved ones.

She was born on August 2, 1933, in Lanett, Alabama, the daughter of William R. and Lorene Styers Sessions.

Barbara graduated from Lanett High School in 1951 and went on to Opelika Technical School in the field of nursing. She continued to work in nursing and became a licensed Practical Nurse. She worked for Dadeville Convalescent Home, later renamed Dadeville Health Care.

On March 26, 1955, she married William L Ragsdale, Jr. in Mississippi. They settled in Camp Hill and started raising their family.

Barbara had many hobbies, a couple of her favorites were cooking, singing and sewing. She loved to sew when the kids were small. She was a wonderful cook, and the kids lovingly remember her cornbread dressing, homemade gingerbread and so many wonderful homemade dishes. Walking through the door after school and smelling homemade gingerbread is a favorite memory for the children. She loved to sing. She was a devoted and faithful member of the Dadeville Church of the Nazarene and loved to lead the congregational singing.

One of the many things that made Barbara special was that despite being dedicated to her job taking care of others at the nursing home, she still had time to take care of and be there for her family.

Barbara is survived by her daughter, Daphne (Vic) Lee, sons, Jeff (Sybil) Ragsdale, Juan (Roxy) Ragsdale, Todd (Marilyn) Ragsdale, Keith (Norma) Ragsdale; grandchildren, Lance Ragsdale, Bethany (Brian) Smith, Jantzen (Janna) Ragsdale, Cody (Jorden) Ragsdale, Holly (Chris) Parrish, Hope (Mitchell) Olsen; 13 great grandchildren; and her brother, Billy Sessions.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Lorene Sessions; husband, William L Ragsdale, Jr.; daughter, Dewanna Ragsdale; brother, Phillip Sessions; sister, Gail Story.

Funeral service will be Monday, April 6, 2026, at Lake Martin Funeral Home, 16797 Hwy 280, Dadeville with visitation starting at 1:00 pm, funeral service at 2:00pm and interment following the service at Camp Hill City Cemetery in Camp Hill, Alabama. The reverend Scott Sessions is officiating.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Dadeville Health Care and Ivy Creek Hospice for their dedication and kindness to Barbara and her family during her illness.

Lake Martin Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Barbara Ragsdale.
