Bonnie L. Keel Germany, age 64, of Dadeville, Alabama, passed away on October 27, 2026, in the comforting presence of her cherished loved ones. Born on January 20, 1962, in LaFayette, Chambers County, Alabama, Bonnie lived a life filled with love, service, and devotion to the people who meant the most to her.
Bonnie was a graduate of Smith Station High School and earned an accounting degree from Phillips Junior College. She proudly served in the United States Navy, where she served with distinction and received an honorable discharge. Her commitment to helping others continued throughout her life, both in her career and in the many relationships she built along the way.
She worked for Auburn University as a legal secretary and also helped as an evening server. No matter where life took her, Bonnie carried with her a strong work ethic, a caring heart, and a desire to make a difference in the lives of others.
Bonnie later worked with the Tallapoosa County Board of Education as a school bus driver and substitute teacher. Her love for children went far beyond her job description. She loved all of her school “babies” immensely and took great pride in being there for them. She was always willing to lend a helping hand to school staff whenever she was needed. She also helped with Special Olympics events, including the initiation of the DHS Track, leaving her mark through her dedication and willingness to serve her community.
When she wasn't working, Bonnie enjoyed the things that made life meaningful and fun. She loved making wreaths and crafting, riding the side-by-side, and going camping. These simple pleasures brought her happiness, but nothing compared to the joy she found in spending time with her family. Her children and grandchildren were the lights of her life, and the time she spent with them was among her most treasured blessings. She loved watching her family grow and creating memories that will be held close for generations to come.
Bonnie was also a member of Hackneyville Community Church. Her life reflected a deep appreciation for family, friendship, and community, and she will be remembered for the love she gave so freely and the many ways she showed up for those around her.
Above all else, Bonnie shared a special and enduring love with her husband of 34 years, James Steven “Steve” Germany. Steve was the true love of her life. Together, they shared more than three decades of marriage, companionship, and memories. Their bond was one of the most treasured parts of Bonnie's life, and the love they shared will remain a lasting part of her family's story.
She shared a beautiful and unbreakable bond with her son, Derrick, whose needs and happiness were always close to her heart. Her love for him was steadfast, and she embraced the joys and challenges of motherhood with a special kind of strength and compassion. The love between a mother and her son is special, but theirs shared a beauty all its own.
Bonnie leaves behind a loving family who will forever carry her memory in their hearts. She is survived by her beloved husband, Steve Germany; her son, Derrick J. Phillips; her daughter, Amberlee Phillips (Robert D. Peppers); and her nephew, Alan Carmack (Nicole), whom she raised like a son; her brother, Jacob B. Barberow. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Dylan L. Eastridge, Gibson L. McDaniel, and Liberty H. Peppers; her nephew, Jason Towne (Angela); her great-nephews and great-nieces, great-great-nephews and great-great-nieces; a special sister in love, Deborah Blackston and a host of other family members and loved ones who will miss her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her father, John Edward Keel; her mother, Betty Bence Barberow; her stepfather, Byron C. Barberow; her brother, John Leslie Keel; her sister, Margaret Ann Keel; and her great-nephew, Cooper Alan Carmack.
Though Bonnie's passing leaves a tremendous void in the hearts of those who loved her, her life will continue to shine through the memories she created and the people she touched. Her family will remember her love, her willingness to help others, her dedication to the children she cared for, and the happiness she found in the company of those closest to her. Her grandchildren will carry forward the love she poured into their lives, while Steve will forever hold the memories of the woman who was the true love of his life.
Bonnie's story is one of love, service, family, and the countless little moments that make a life extraordinary. She will be remembered not only for what she did, but for the love she gave, the lives she touched, and the special place she held in the hearts of so many. Though she is no longer physically present, her love will remain woven into the lives of her family and all who were fortunate enough to know her.
A celebration to honor Bonnie's life will be held at a later date.
May she be remembered always with love, gratitude, and the warmth of the many beautiful memories she leaves behind.
