Elsieleen Dunn passed away in Dadeville, Alabama, surrounded by her loved ones on May 27, 2025, at the age of 91.
She was born in Missouri on February 13, 1934, to the late Thomas Parsley and Silas K Campbell.
She is survived by her sons, Dennis (Debbie) and Dwight (Sharon) Dunn; daughters, Judith Sanchez, Diane Platt (Luther), and Nancy Smith (Gregg); 14 grandchildren, Erik Sanchez, Derik Sanchez, Shannon Pearce, Dennis “Bub” Dunn, Kasandra “Sandy” Wilbanks, Michelle “Shelly” Bowins, Kimberly Johnson, Wayne Barrett, Summer Barnett, Dustin Barrett, Brandy Lamb, Corey Dunn, Candice Thaggard, and Virgil Lee Gilson; 33 great-grandchildren; 22 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and 2 brothers.
She was so loved—and she would often say she was blessed. She loved being surrounded by her family. Witty, warm-hearted, and unbelievably understanding and accepting, she touched everyone she met.
Her children would say, “No matter where she lived, she always made the house a welcoming home for us and others.”
People admired her strength and steadfast faith in God. Many were surprised by her adventurous spirit— at the young age of 91, she went on her first cruise and flew on an airplane for the very first time!
Children were especially curious about her little fingers and her “nub” (as we affectionately called it). She would always smile, let them touch her hands, and answer any questions they had with patience and grace.
She was a good sport, especially with her two boys who loved to pick on her for attention. She would joke with them, saying she was going to get a switch after them!
She loved to fish—and don’t be fooled by her handicap; she could reel them in like a pro. She also loved being outside with her plants, watching birds flutter around her feeders, and listening to the soothing sounds of wind chimes and birdsong.
She didn’t like to be alone. She and Dad married young and raised a beautiful family: 5 children, 14 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 22 great-great-grandchildren. They were together until Dad’s passing five years ago.
Fittingly, Mom passed away on what would have been their 75th wedding anniversary.
We are all so fortunate to have been loved by our mother.
