Obituary

Geraldine “Geri” Cochran, 86, of Dadeville, AL passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at home surrounded by her loved ones.

Geri was born October 17, 1939 in Beauregard, Al to Cecil L. and Irene (Parker) Freeman, and always called Alabama home. Life led her to live in Decatur, IL and Port Charlotte, FL where she could spend more time with her children & grandchildren, and then she came home to the peacefulness of Dadeville, AL where she spent her final years.

Geri was a manager of The Diana Shop, a women’s clothing boutique, where she proudly managed multiple locations throughout the state. She always had an eye for style and things that sparkled. In the evenings, you might find her sparkling on the dance floor with her husband of 40years, George N. Cochran. George passed on to heaven in 2006, where we know he was waiting with a wink and a smile so they could dance together again.

Geri had the sweetest passion for serving her family, friends, and community. She was very involved with church throughout her life, playing the piano & helping any way she could. First Baptist Church Dadeville was her final church home, where she was surrounded with the greatest group of friends in her ladies’ group and Sunday School class. If you knew Geri, you were loved like family!

Geri’s greatest accomplishment in life is her family. They were at the center of everything she did and were always in her prayers. She enjoyed seeing 5 generations and got to hold them all. She was an amazing cook and enjoyed having the family around the table. Everyone had their favorites that she cooked, and you knew your favorite sweet treat was waiting for you when you came to visit. After dinner, you could find her on the porch, swinging and talking about the day, as she overlooked her beautiful yard and flowers that she enjoyed working so hard on.

She leaves behind her sons Donald (Cindy) Rearden Jr. of Dadeville, AL, Greg (Valerie) Rearden of Ocala, FL, and Paul (Deanna) Rearden of McKinney, TX; daughter Lisa (Gary) Day of Port Charlotte, FL; 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren.

She was reunited in heaven with her parents, husband, and her 2 brothers Clinton & Dallas Freeman.

Granny, you are truly loved beyond words and will be greatly missed! Thank you for showing us the true meaning of love & family. We will be together one day soon, and we look so forward to that hug; but until then, we’ll hold your love and lessons in our hearts.
