The family of Janell B. Sasser of Dadeville, Alabama, is saddened to announce her passing on the morning of March 10, 2026 at the age of ninety-two years. She passed on peacefully in her sleep at her daughter Darla's home with her two youngest children by her side and was looking forward to being reunited with her loving husband who went to be with Jesus on January 8, 2013.
She was born on February 16, 1934, and married Jimmy F. Sasser on Christmas Eve, 1951, when they were seventeen. They moved briefly to California while Jimmy served in the Navy during the Korean War but spent the rest of their lives back home in Alabama raising their family and building a successful family business together.
Janell will be lovingly remembered by her children, Jimmy Frank Sasser Jr. residing in Foley, AL, Sherry (Jack) Teague residing at Lake Martin, AL, Lisa (Clay) Walton residing in Reeltown, AL, Darla Sasser residing in Stillwaters in Dadeville, AL, and Marla (Ricky) Garner also residing in Stillwaters in Dadeville, AL.
She was a loving Mamaw to twelve grandchildren, Kevin (Kim) Walton, Anna (Truett) Lawrence, Katie (Tyler) Riggs, Matthew (Haley) Walton, Eden (Reed) Shiver, Natalie Walton, Andrew Walton, Nancy Walton, Samuel Walton, Gabrielle Garner, Charles Gabriel Garner, and Abigail Garner; and boasted thirteen great-grandchildren, Kaylee (Daniel) Freeman, Noah Walton, Ava Walton, Levi Walton, Jimmy Lawrence, Rose Lawrence, Arthur Lawrence, Reuben Riggs, Laura Walton, Elizabeth Walton, Clay Walton, Mary Julia Shiver, Emmitt Shiver and one great-great grandchild, Reed Freeman, on the way.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore Baker and Lillie Harris Baker of Kellyton, AL, her sister, Mary Katherine (Robert) Keel and brother Robert Baker and is survived by her sister-in-law Rachel Baker.
Mom lived a long, happy life. And in her last years, she was blessed to be cared for at home by her daughter, Darla. She blessed us all with her amazing sense of humor. She kept her quick wit, sharp mind, love, and concern for her family until the end. Her final conversations were spent choosing humor instead of sadness, finding peace without worry, expressing joy and thankfulness, laughing, listening to her favorite gospel songs, singing every verse of “I Got The Joy Down In My Heart” out loud with her hands held high, and being told and telling us again and again that she loved us.
Mom never liked cut flowers. So to honor her memory, she would have loved donations to help cover the cost of publishing “The Anxious Princess”, a therapeutic Christian fairytale written to help individuals (especially children) understand and cope with anxiety. The book was inspired by our Mom and written by her daughter, Darla Sasser, in Mom’s final months to continue her legacy. It is currently being illustrated by her granddaughter, Gabby Garner. https://www.givesendgo.com/JanellSasserMemorial?utm_source=website_share&utm_medium= sharelink&utm_campaign=JanellSasserMemorial
A private celebration of life for the immediate family will be held at a later date at the family’s request. However, we welcome and appreciate your prayers, kind words, and any memories you would be willing to share
