John Carl Nelson, 53 of Jacksons Gap, Alabama passed away on February 16, 2026, at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, Alabama.
John was born on August 28, 1972, in Lee County Hospital, the son of William J. Nelson and Frances Ware Nelson.
John loved the Lord and gave his life to Jesus 2 days before his passing.
John really enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family and friends. He was a truck driver for many years. He and Angie used to love to go night fishing and their favorite time was midnight. They would pack snacks and drinks and sit for hours fishing and talking, it didn’t even matter if the fish were biting or not. They loved their time together.
He was a proud PawPaw and treasured every moment he got to spend with his grandbabies. He was always helping the grandbabies learn and was so excited to help BamBam learn his colors. He was blessed to have the love of two moms in his life, one by birth and one by love. He cherished his mom Frances, he treasured his time spent with her and missed her every day after her passing. When John and Angie got together, he was welcomed into the Crouch family by Angie’s mom, Mary Crouch. John came to love Mrs. Mary as a second mom and was proud to be a part of her family.
John was preceded in death by his parents, William J. and Frances Nelson.
He is survived by his wife, Mary A “Angie” Crouch Nelson; daughters, Phoenix Angel (Chris) Birch, Julia Self; son, Tracey (Jennifer) Bradford, Jr.; grandchildren, Zoey Birch, Bam Bam Bradford and Carson Birch.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
