Mary Jo Moncus, 79, of Dadeville, Alabama, passed away on September 22, 2025, peacefully at home surrounded by her family and loved ones.
Mary Jo was born on December 4, 1945, the daughter of Henry Frances “Pete” Monroe and Nellie Lee Welcher Monroe.
Mary Jo loved sitting and watching her hummingbirds. She liked watching Jimmy Swaggart and Gunsmoke. She spent a lot of time cooking, canning and working in her garden. Her most cherished time was spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her spirits were always lifted while spending time with her kittens and her Yorkie fur baby, Buddy.
Mary Jo was a member of Mountain Springs Baptist Church.
Remaining to cherish Mary Jo’s memory are her daughters, Caroline (Jackie) Goggins, Tammy (David) Daniel; granddaughter, Brandy Goggins Barrett; great granddaughters, Chasey Halsey, Haylee Halsey; great grandson, Benny Guffey; niece, Sabrina (Jeremy) Davis; sister-in-law Sue Mann; and a host of friends, family and loved ones.
Mary Jo was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vernon Moncus; sister, Elaine Monroe; brother, James Monroe; granddaughter, April Goggins; grandsons, Leslie Goggins, Joseph Goggins; grandson-in-law, Jamie Barrett; aunt, Inez Monroe and uncle, Luther Monroe.
A Funeral service will be held in the Chapel at Lake Martin Funeral Home Thursday, September 25, 2025 at 11 AM. Interment will be immediately following the service at Tallapoosa County Memory Gardens Cemetery at 21927 US Highway 280, Camp Hill, Alabama.
The family wishes to extend special thanks and appreciation to Enhabit Home Health and SouthernCare New Beacon Hospice for the wonderful care they provided for Mary Jo.
